How To Reach Us

Church Projects

Our support for this Christian charity started with sponsorship of a little girl in Bangladesh, changing to sponsorship of a community worker, and currently involved with supporting more children in third world countries. We do, however allow experts to tell us where the specific need is for each years donation.

World Vision workers in many countries are involved with all aspects of improving life for the poor, with projects including:
  • Assisting communities to set up small businesses.
  • Education of both adults and children (literacy, health care, agricultural methods etc)
  • Supply and maintenance of clean water.
  • Supply or loan of livestock and materials.
  • Enabling people to become self sufficient, establishing a dignity for themselves. Assisting communities to set up small businesses.

The ethos of World Vision is to find out from the poor what help they need and to work with them to reach the stage where they can celebrate release from dependency on others.

As well as ongoing work, World Vision is ready with immediate assistance when disasters or emergencies occur.

St. Martins sponsors a child through the Charity Compassion. Compassion is an evangelical Christian child sponsorship organisation who give loving Christians a chance to make a difference.

Rather than being overwhelmed by the staggering statistics of poverty, Compassion believes it is our Christian responsibility to help the poor as Christ did.

Children are clearly the greatest victims of poverty. Of the 2.2 billion children in our world today nearly half of them live in desperate conditions. But it is these children who hold the potential to break the cycle of deprivation for future generations. They are the pastors, teachers, doctors, engineers and change makers of tomorrow.

Compassion has over 50 years experience of working with some of the poorest communities in the world. During that time more than one million children have been assisted by Compassion.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is an international charity project of Samaritan’s Purse International Relief which meets the critical needs of victims of war, poverty, famine, disease and natural disaster whilst sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Filled shoeboxes are distributed to impoverished children in 13 countries including Bosnia, Armenia, Kosovo, Mozambique and Russia. At St. Martins we encourage all members of the congregation to become involved all year round, collecting much needed items such as toothpaste, hats, tissues and toys for the children. Each year we hold a Shoebox Sunday when we gather together all the collected items, pack the boxes according to age and gender then decorate them with Christmas paper.

The boxes are then collected by our local representative, checked, sealed and distributed by lorry to their destination.
